In a recent article courtesy of slate- ‘Why do women who have anal sex get more orgasms?’ the author explores what he initially perceived to be the reluctant engagement of women in such a sphere only to find on the whole many of them, especially younger women were often the ones engaging and seeking it out.

Since 1992, the percentage of women aged 20-24 who say they’ve tried anal sex has doubled to 40 percent. The percentage of women aged 20-39 who say they’ve done it in the past year has doubled to more than 20 percent. And 94 percent of women who received anal sex in their last encounter said they reached orgasm—a higher rate of orgasm than was reported by women who had vaginal intercourse or received

The author then hypothesizes a variety of reasons why women are in fact seeking it out. Reasons that I have summarized below. The overwhelming consensus seems to be on the whole the idea of ‘anal sex’ being perceived as a demeaning activity has abated as well as the awareness that anal sex on of and itself despite what your grandma’s or the pope tells you can be quite enjoyable. It could also be that we are more willing to experiment and treat ourselves to pleasures now that buying pleasures isn’t once the type of option it used to be economically.
